"It was my great good fortune to have Wilma Wyss design my first book. She demonstrated a terrific sensitivity to the material and worked with me closely to find the best possible way to present it in a way that makes it easy for the reader to understand and digest. She is highly skilled in the art of book and graphic design, and was also a pleasure to work with. Perhaps the best recommendation for Wilma’s work comes from every person who looks through my book. 'This is so well-designed,' they say, 'Who did it?'"

Book Design

I enjoy book design because it's a detail-oriented form of creativity, reflecting our desire for pattern, rhythm and order. The combination of typography with imagery is particularly interesting to me. In addition to various other past projects, most recently I designed a series of memoirs and a workbook on test-taking.

I designed the cover and interior spreads, which include numerous photos and a few maps. The project began with me designing a flexible template to elegantly incorporate the photos. Page size: 8 x 10".

For this book on urban design by Peter Calthorpe, a leader in New Urbanism, I created the cover and interior. Working closely with the author, I sought a design that clearly and elegantly expresses his concepts, incorporating existing diagrams and drawings. Page size 8.5 x 10".

Written by nationally respected psychologist and educator Dr. Ben Bernstein, this workbook teaches an easy-to-learn, proven method for test takers to remain calm, confident and focused. The 208-page interior that I designed include many charts, exercises and pull quotes. Page size 7 x 10".
