Elements in Separation
To Commemorate the Pandemic
Description of sculpture from the base going up:
At the bottom of the base are moons in the night skies remind me of steady passing of time.
In the lower section of the sculpture, there are about 1,000 tiny casket shaped pieces.
While I hand cut these little pieces, I honored the lives lost in the pandemic.

The column depicts flowers representing growth and healing. There is a grouping of figures which are social distanced.
I’m aware of the triangulating needed to navigate the 6-foot distance between people.
At the top are sunsets representing fleeting beauty in the world.
In nature I find solace and reassurance.

Materials are high fire tile, vitreous and glass tile, stained glass, porcelain plates, and smalti (thick colored glass originally used in Byzantine church mosaics). Each piece is cut and sanded by hand by the artist. The sculpture is constructed from a lightweight cement board that is rigid and waterproof. Sculpture is weather resistant and can be displayed indoors or outdoors.
